These latter trees have the ability to draw up through their roots, the chthonic
power of the earth. So also they easily connect with and transmit cosmic energies
from above. This is the reason why meditating under these trees can have a very
powerful effect, both in terms of grounding and illumination, especially at mid-day,
and also at the time of the Full and New Moons.
In general, both crystals as well as trees are capable of harmonising and balancing
the five elements and the life force with astral influences of the twelve signs,
nine major planets, and other significant cosmic influences. Crystals left for cleansing
and recharging under the sacred plants, whether accompanied with mantra chanting
or not, can bring quantum blessings in both healing and spiritual development.
It is a common observation that infants and pets are also naturally attracted to
crystal energies, and it is beneficial for them to interact and play with crystals
under supervision. However, it is best to place crystals out-of-reach of pets and
very young children in the home and garden, since their sharp edges can cause injury,
and also because licking or accidental ingestion can be potentially harmful.

The unknown crystal realms
Crystals are living, growing entities while in the womb of the earth. On one occasion,
when I visited a site of recent blasting for road construction, I was initiated
in full waking consciousness to the secret world of crystals. Little quartz geodes
I picked up were filled with soft and dark velvety needles that bent to my gentle,
probing touch. I was tempted to take them away with me, but better sense prevailed
as I left them in their natural habitat in that delicate period of growth. However,
when I visited the site a few days later, I found to my chagrin that the soft growth
had died and turned into ugly and scaly forms. Instead of beautiful, lustrous crystals,
these were ugly stones that looked and felt like barnacles or damaged and discoloured
corals.

Miners and geologists may swear that crystals stop growing when detached from their
rocky foundation. However, I have a different story to tell, through direct personal
observation.
In India it is well-known that rocks and crystals are sensitive enough to bear the
observable imprint of subtle mantras in meditation and ritual worship. Very often,
I have seen stones and crystals bearing the sacred form of AUM (\),
or its representative icon of Ganesh, the elephant-headed god with the remarkable
curved trunk! Such images tend to become sharper and clearer in manifestation over
a period of time.

Many of the naturally occurring Ganesh stones in my personal collection – called
swayambhu or self-manifested icons – were found
in old ashram grounds amid the gravel underfoot. I conjecture that these were fairly
ordinary crystals later influenced by higher cosmic frequencies, in resonance to
the exalted spiritual vibes in those environs. Many psychics reveal that stones
are among the most sensitive recording devices in the Natural realms.
Gemstones are known especially to have this propensity, and a coral pendant I wore
came to manifest the Ganesh or AUM image gradually over a period of two years, as
observed by many people.

Similarly, I had placed a finger-like projection of a white coral quartz stalactite
(about 2 cms. in diameter), in a planter bearing the sacred basil outside my village
home, before I permanently returned to the city. Later, several neighbours visiting
me remarked on how the stone had grown in size. Sure enough, when I went to take
a look for myself, the diameter of the crystal had grown amazingly to a thickness
of about twice its original size.

A small decorative crystal specimen of gyrolite and stilbite in a friend’s possession
has similarly manifested fascinating new growth. This friend is into strong meditation
discipline for decades now, and the pure frequencies in her home have obviously
served as a secure environment for the crystal to continue its growth after a rude
break from its natural habitat.
I have had many interesting on-going contacts with crystal energies while in the
astral body, in meditation, in dreams, and also in the half-awake state. On one
memorable occasion I was taken on an exhilarating and invigorating ride through
the Atlantean landscape of gorgeously lit quartz needle 'skyscrapers'!
On another occasion, a transparent to opaque red amethyst (red haematite) cluster
full of phantom shapes, located atop a lotus-shaped dark amethyst base (lodged on
the window sill by my bed), lit up several times like a blinking neon sign, to let
me know that here was something very special!

Tuning in to the crystal frequencies
Often enough we begin to interact with different crystals in our collection at different
times, as those that resonate better with our current frame of mind or overall condition
catch our attention, while the previous favourites turn into dumb notes. It helps
to observe the mental shifts when this happens.
It has happened many-a-time that exposure to a single crystal, with playful or even
unconscious opening up to its energies, led to greater fascination with the energies
of the mineral kingdom in general. Such absorption, with growing sensitivity to
crystal vibes can eventually result in enriching experiences of rockhounding, which
was true in my case.
