Introduction
The festivals of India are so numerous that they run all the year round.
They appeal to all sections and segments of society and they are usually flamboyant
celebrations of life even as they thank the higher powers for that life. The rhythms
of the seasons, the joys of belief, the pause for contemplation of what is vaster
and more meaningful than the mundane, all these become axes for the myriad festivals
of India to revolve round.
indiayogi will attempt to bring you an introduction to the major festivals of the
country, with special emphasis on their spiritual ethos. Festivals in a sense are
a visibilization of the prevailing religious beliefs and the effort here will be
to cover those festivals which mean much to millions rather than those which are
the better known or more photogenic.
Festivals are times of joy, and we seek to share that feeling!
