In 1995 I started to attend a course of Brahma Vidya (Mental Physics) that deals
with Self Development. It comprises of pranayam, a set of breathing exercises, affir
mations and lectures, thus taking care of an individual's physical, mental and emotional
bodies and leading her/him to a balanced state of existence. The course further
propelled me into a realm that I did not know existed. Every time I would do the
exercises and subsequently sit in meditation, I would find myself entering into
an altered state of consciousness. In my meditations, I was made to see a series
of over 100 visuals, which I slowly realized was a visual depiction of the wonderful
process of spiritual unfoldment.
The ajna chakra (brow chakra) would become fully active, giving me a visual overview
of what was transpiring within and outside of my body. I realized that a strange
phenomenon was taking place, for whatever I was seeing was not with the physical
eyes. Also, what was fascinating was that I could look in all directions simultaneously,
without moving my head.
I started looking for books and soon gained the understanding that this was the
result of an active Kundalini, the great force of energy which resides in the human
body at the base of the subtle spinal cord in the subtle body, at the Perineum (midway
between the genitals and the anus). It is through the latent power of Kundalini
that all creatures act.
This energy in its enhanced state remains unavailable to the individual as long
as his or her consciousness remains entrenched in the mundane. As the human consciousness
starts expanding, it makes way for the free flow of Kundalini, which then enhances
each aspect of the personality it passes through.
