A Native American elder once described his own inner struggles in this manner: "My thoughts inside of me are like two dogs. One of the dogs is mean and evil. The other dog is good. The mean dog fights the good dog all the time." When asked which dog wins, he reflected for a moment and replied, "The one I feed the most."

  Which dog do you feed?

Each of us has a concept of good and bad, the virtuous and the amoral, the bright and the dark! Our life revolves around compartmentalizing issues, labeling people, and evaluating experiences! Happiness is synonymous with favorable experiences, rhapsodic times which we wish would last forever and negativity, despondency, melancholy define the so called "negative" moments!

What we don't realize is that every thought that we feed to our subconscious, every idea that we conceive, whether good or bad, has the capability of forming our physical existence, defining our experiences! So look closely at your thoughts! Be aware of their influence and momentousness.

Don't judge these expressions of your being; just remember that they are creating your reality! Be aware of the dog that you are feeding!

Question z Is it possible to completely anniliate the prarabdha karma (continuing karma) or reduce it by doing japas (chants) and meditation?

Answer The doctrine of Prarabhdha Karma is based on the subtle principle of cause and effect i.e. on the principle of " as you sow, so shall you reap."As per this theory, whatever you do or whatever you act upon evokes an equal response somewhere! If you perform, what you think, are good acts, you reap the benefits, if you harm others, you will, at some point of time, suffer from some injury! Under this doctrine, whatever you have done in your previous lives forms the Sanchita karma in causal body .The karma of your present life forms the Prarabhdha karma! Generally one cannot escape the effect of Sanchita Karma or Prarabhdha karma unless one accomplishes something to repay it or to compensate at the conscience level. By any means if one attains enlightenment, then through the light of one's creative wisdom the past karmas can be erased. From this point of view, therefore, the meditation or mantra, if done properly in a given case, may help to soothen the effect of Prarabhdha Karma thereby modulating its effect, if not annihilating it completely!

Sex and Spirituality

Sex and religious impulses seem incongruous when spoken of in the same breath. After all, most of the major world religions have devoted an enormous amount of time to combating the sexual impulse. The inappropriate flare up of lust is the most common cause for crashing and burning on the spiritual fast lane, and religious establishments are never comfortable with what they cannot control.

indiayogi attempts to reveal this perplexing aspect of sacred sexuality through the channel Sex and Spirituality. Click here to read about our impressions on Sex and Spirituality which goes beyond the usual…..
